Combine the song-writing genius of Jonathan Richman, the lo-fi humility of Herman Dune and a few guitar moments that Springsteen himself would be proud of, and you get close to the marvels on display here. For a few years The Wave Pictures have played sporadically in the UK, France and New York. During this time highlights have included playing at the Mofo Festival in Paris at the invitation of friends Herman Dune, and playing shows with Herman Dune and The Jeffrey Lewis Band. David also sang The Wave Pictures song "Dust Off Your Heart" with Herman Dune on a radio session for the great John Peel. The Wave Pictures have also served as backing band and co-songwriters for John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats, the results featuring on a seven-inch single released by 4AD records. Support comes from affable pure-pop alchemists The Spencer McGarry Season, who claim will release 6 different albums in 6 different genres in as many years!Defining the traits from post punk such as the insaneness of Talking Heads to the perfect middle-eighted pop of Andy Partridges' XTC, Jonathan Richman etc etc, you can see a thread here... First up are The Jaynes who share whimsy melodies bereft of Hefners Darren Hayman. They will share their jangly singalong summer hymns with us to start the merryment.
